The leaderboard of the 2025 Scottish Open resembles one that might show up at a major championship. While some consider the 72-hole trek at the Renaissance Club to be the perfect warm-up for next week’s Open Championship, time and again the North Berwick, Scotland, course proves to be a tremendous tournament in its own right. Such is the case again this year as Chris Gotterup’s tremendous second-round 61 placed him atop a heap of stars entering Moving Day.
Seeking to overtake him across the remaining 36 holes are some of the sport’s biggest names, including Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Åberg and Matt FItzpatrick — just to name a few. All begin Saturday’s third round within six shots of Gotterup . Åberg and Fitzpatrick are the closest — just three back of the leader — while McIlroy posted a 65 to push into a six-way tie that is four behind the 25-year-old Sooner seeking his second career PGA Tour victory.
