Men’s Golf Sits in Fourth Place After First Round of Southland Conference Championship

KERRVILLE – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team sits in fourth place after the first day of the Southland Conference (SLC) Championship on Monday at Comanche Trace Golf Course. 
 

The Vaqueros opened with a first round 297 and are just two shots behind Incarnate Word for third place and seven shots behind East Texas A&M for second. Augusta holds the first round lead after posting a first round 285. 
 
UTRGV has three tied for 10th place with junior Arthit Kruaprayong, sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Esteban Gonzalez, and redshirt senior Taj Sutherland each posting an opening round one-over par 73. 
 
Junior Luis Limón is tied for 45th with a first round 78 and sophomore Emilio Gil Leyva is tied for 50th with a first round 79. Augusta’s Bo Blanchard holds the individual lead with a first round six-under 66.
 
The Vaqueros will be back on the course for the second round on Tuesday with the first group teeing off at 10 a.m.
