WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – A special golf tournament this weekend aims to help veterans and their families.
Starting on June 18, golfers will raise money for Hire Heroes USA during a weekend-long indoor golf tournament. ServiceMasters partners with Hire Heroes, a nonprofit that has helped over 75,000 veterans find jobs after serving overseas since 2007.
Sara Kee, Director of Sales and Marketing for ServiceMasters, said the non-profit helps create resumes and relationships with employers.
“There are so many young men and women who join the military that go in right after high school or right after college, so they learned their military skills and now they need to transfer that into a resume, and that’s where we come in and we help bridge the gap,” Kee said.
Next Level Golf has been open since July 2023. Joe Shaffer, co-owner, said he’s happy to give back to those who have given the most to their country; it’s something that resonates with him.
“We have some regular players that have signed up, and we also have some new people that have not been in before that are signing up for the tournament, so it’s exciting to see new people coming out and enjoying it. I have many family members who have served. My dad served in the Coast Guard years, so absolutely, and being here in Wichita Falls, being right here at Sheppard Air Force Base, we very much want to support the military in anything we do,” Shaffer said.
Golfers will beat the heat this weekend with the A/C. Shaffer explained the benefits of having the event indoors.
“We are all here together, so we can have camaraderie together. we can talk together. We aren’t spread out on a golf course, where we go out to each different hole and everyone is on their own. Here it’s kind of a group event, a group party if you would, and people get to share stories,” Shaffer said.
The tournament is a two-person scramble that begins July 18 through July 20. It is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The cost is $75 per person and $150 for a team. The address for Next Level Golf is 3910 Wayne Ave #110, Wichita Falls, TX 76308
