MY DAD PUT A PLASTIC GOLF CLUB IN MY HAND AND AFTER KINDERGARTEN HE TOOK ME OUT TO THE DRIVING RANGE AND WE COULD GO HIT. AND I STARTED PLAYING TOURNAMENTS WHEN I WAS FIVE. COUNTLESS TOURNAMENTS AND NUMEROUS ROUNDS. VALLEY HIGH COUNTRY CLUB IS JAYDEN’S HOME AWAY FROM HOME. THEY’VE GIVEN ME ACCESS TO THIS GOLF, THIS AMAZING GOLF COURSE AND FACILITY THAT’S ALLOWED ME TO PRACTICE AND KIND OF CHASE MY CHASE MY DREAM OF MAKING IT OUT AND MAKING IT BIG. THE PAST FEW YEARS. JAYDEN’S MADE A SPLASH PLAYING ON THE STEPH CURRY UNDERRATED TOUR. VERY GRATEFUL TO MEET HIM AND KIND OF IDOLIZE HIM. AND. WHAT HE’S ACCOMPLISHED AND HOW HE KIND OF CARRIES HIMSELF. AN OPPORTUNITY TO WORK ON HIS SWING. YOU KNOW, I KIND OF JUST ENJOY AND I JUST KIND OF WHACK THE BALL AROUND WHILE GAINING CHAMPIONSHIP CALIBER CONFIDENCE. WHEN THE PUTTER IS HOT, IT I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A REALLY GOOD CHANCE OF WINNING EVERY TOURNAMENT AND GOING LOW. AND HIS PUTTER WAS PUT TO THE TEST AT THE UNDERRATED PGA CHAMPIONSHIP TWO WEEKS AGO, SINKING THE FINAL PUTT ON THE FINAL PLAYOFF HOLE, SECURING HIM A SPOT IN THE CURRIE CUP IN NEW YORK. IT MEANS A LOT, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR, JUST BECAUSE THIS WILL BE MY THAT WILL BE MY LAST JUNIOR EVENT, WHICH IS IS CRAZY TO SAY THAT I’M GOING TO COLLEGE NOW. JAYDEN’S SCHEDULE REALLY STARTS TO PICK UP OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. THE CURRIE CUP IS SET FOR SEPTEMBER, BUT BEFORE THAT HE’S HEADED UP TO SPOKANE FOR COLLEGE IN AUGUST TO PLAY GOLF WITH THE GONZAGA BULLDOGS. I LOVE THE CAMPUS. I LOVE THE COACH. ‘Very grateful’: Elk Grove golfer Jayden Lizama on his journey in the sport, competing in Curry Cup
Jayden Lizama, a golfer from Elk Grove, began swinging a golf club at the age of two and has recently secured a spot in the Curry Cup after winning the Underrated PGA West Championship.Lizama’s father introduced him to golf with a plastic club, and by kindergarten, he was hitting the driving range and playing in tournaments by age five. Valley Hi Country Club has become his home away from home, providing him access to its facilities to practice and chase his dream. “They’ve given me access to this amazing golf course and facility that’s allowed me to practice and kind of chase my dream of making it out and making it big,” Lizama said.Over the past few years, Lizama has made a splash on the Steph Curry Underrated Tour. “Very grateful to meet him and idolize him and what he’s accomplished and how he carries himself,” he said. He enjoys working on his swing, saying, “I kind of just enjoy it and just kind of whack the ball around.”His confidence has grown, especially when his putter is performing well. “When the putter’s hot, I feel like I have a really good chance of winning at every tournament,” Lizama said. Two weeks ago, his skills were tested at the Underrated PGA West Championship. “I didn’t really have too many expectations going into it. So I just kind of went out there, had fun and ended up walking with the W,” he said. He secured his victory by sinking the final putt on the playoff hole, earning him a spot in the Curry Cup in New York. “It means a lot, especially this year, just because this will be my last junior event, which is, is crazy to say,” Lizama said.Lizama’s schedule is set to become busier in the coming months.
