Four Dutch women golfers added to academic squad

by Author

PELLA—The Central College women’s golf team had four players recognized as All-American scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association, continuing a long tradition of academic prowess for the program.

The Dutch were led by four-time honoree Lydia Grond (senior, Hull, Boyden-Hull HS). Mickey Martens (freshman, Villa Park, Ill., Willowbrook HS) also earned the honor for the second time.

For selection, honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and compete in 50% of the team’s rounds. It’s the 13th time in 14 years that at least one Central player was cited. Nationwide, 1,547 players at all levels of women’s college golf were selected. Buena Vista University, Coe College and Luther College were the only other American Rivers schools with players named.
