The Fulton Public Schools Foundation hosted a golf fundraiser tournament on Saturday, May 31st at Tanglewood golf course.
The tournament featured prizes for golfers in attendance for longest drive, closest-to-pin and longest putt contests.
Executive Director of the FPS Foundation Scout Gibson spoke about the event
“This is our seventh annual tournament and the money we raise helps us to fund scholarships for graduating seniors as well as classroom grants. This year we’re hosting the hole-in-one contest on the course”
A link for contributions was also available on the FPS Foundation Facebook account.
The course was littered with participants, all supporting the fundraiser with their involvement in the tournament.
“This year we have 59 golfers this year,” Gibson said. “Those are just the people supporting in person.”
On the course, a group of four said that they were tournament regulars.
“This is our third or fourth time playing in the tournament,” Fulton-native Tayler Morts said about his group. “Only now are we just starting to get good though.”
Morts and the three in his group completed their 18th hole around 1:00 p.m.
“We started strong, the run fell apart towards the end though,” Morts said jokingly.
Gibson also shared her estimations on how much the tournament will raise.
“We aren’t 100% sure, but I expect that we’ll raise close to $8,000 for shcolarships and grants this year,” Gibson said. “We’ve awarded close to $18,000 in classroom grants for the 2025-26 school year and we gave around $14,000 in scholarship awards at the senior award night in May.
When asked about what this fundraiser and others like it mean for the city of Fulton, Gibson expressed just how much support they recieve from the community.
“I think it’s important for the community to know that out foundation is here and is giving back to the school system,” Gibson said. “We have a lot of educators participting today by playing or sponsoring. We have alumni who have done sponsorships and bought raffle tickets.”
Along the course, each hole was sponsored by a different entity. Some of them were local businesses, others were alumni or other individuals.
“These are continued supporters of the foundation and they consistently want to give back to the future students of the district,” Gibson said. “The foundation has been very well-supported by the community. We’re happy to have each and every one of out sponsors. Just as the community has supported us, the foundation has been supporting the community for over 20 years, and will continue to do so in the future.”
