VESTAL, N.Y. – Another newcomer is joining the Binghamton golf team in the fall of 2025, as the program announced the signing of Beckham Chiew Wednesday.
Β
“We are excited for Beckham to be joining our team,” said Binghamton Head Golf Coach Bernie Herceg. “Beckham is an accomplished golfer who brings many great qualities to our program. We look forward to watching him grow and develop here at Binghamton.”
Β
Chiew hails from Calgary, Alberta and attended Rundle College Senior High School. He has found success competing in the junior circuit in Canada. In 2023, Chiew won the Alberta Junior Tour Nanton Junior Open with a score of 69/2-under par. The following year in 2024, Chiew finished 10th at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour (MJT) Western Championship and tied for 11th at the Alberta U19 Championship. Back in 2022, Chiew also placed seventh at the MJT Playing Under Par Series at Carstairs Golf Club and tied for 12th at the MJT Ford Series at Olds Central Highlands.
Β
Chiew will be the first Canadian to compete on the Binghamton golf team since both Sameer Kalia and Gray Potter back in 2017. Potter, who is from Glen Williams, Ontario, is tied for the lowest round relative to par in Binghamton history when he shot a 66/6-under par in the first round of the 2015 Turning Stone-Tiger Intercollegiate. Kalia, a native of Campbellville, Ontario, posted three top 20 finishes during his career with the Bearcats from 2014-17.
Β
The Bearcats have two other commitments joining Chiew for the class of 2029. Both Alex Patel and Jack Tebeau previously signed on to join the Bearcats back in November.
Β
Binghamton is preparing for its spring season after a strong finish to its fall slate. The Bearcats finished second at its home event, the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational, for the second season in a row on Oct. 7. On Oct. 20, for its final tournament of the fall, the Lehigh Invitational, Brandon Conner became the first Binghamton golfer to earn medalist honors since Ryan Rodriguez won the Navy Invitational in 2019. In the opening round, he tied the second-lowest score in program history relative to par at 67/5-under par. He was the only golfer in the 45-man field to finish the tournament under par, posting a score of 141/3-under the par.
Β
The Bearcats will announce their spring schedule on a later date.
