Thermopolis golf standout Hayden Overfield is taking his talents to the next level. He has committed to play golf at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in South Dakota. Overfield was the Class 2A state champion in 2024. He earned three all-state awards during his prep career and helped the Bobcats win state championships in 2021, 2022, and 2024.
Overfield won the 2A title last fall by one stroke after a two-day total of 160. He overcame a five-shot deficit with a final round 78 at Kendrick Golf Course in Sheridan. That led the Bobcats to the state championship by 14 shots.
As a junior in 2023, Hayden finished fifth at the state championships. He was 21 shots behind the winner. In 2022, Overfield tied for sixth as a sophomore.
Thermopolis Athletic Director and Head Golf Coach Brandon Deromedi provided plenty of praise for Overfield in a release to WyoPreps.
“He has improved his scoring average from a 109 as a freshman to 74 as a senior. Cutting an average by 35 strokes doesn’t happen by accident. Hayden has proven what dedication and hard work can do in a short four years time. As his coach, I believe Hayden is a coach’s dream. He is selfless, determined, self-motivated, kind, caring, humble and positive. He has always been a great leader on our teams and we have known since he was a freshman that he was going to have a great career on and off the course. Hayden is also very successful academically and as a member of our FFA team in Thermopolis. Thermopolis couldn’t be more-proud of Hayden.”

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is in Rapid City, SD. The Hardrockers compete at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
