Men’s Golf Opens Cochran Collegiate With Two Rounds in Tennessee

CORDOVA, Tenn. – The Gustavus men’s golf team is in seventh place out of 18 teams following the first 36 holes of the Cochran Collegiate held Monday, April 14, at Colonial Country Club (par 72), hosted by Rhodes College (Tenn.).

Babson (Mass.) leads the field with a two-round score of 599 (+23), two shots ahead of Lynchburg (Va.) is second (+25, 601).

Pelayo Perez Crespo (Jr., Sotogrande, Spain) is tied for 11th out of 90 golfers with a two-round total of 152 (+8) to lead the Gusties individually. Perez Crespo carded a five-over 77 in his second round to move up 11 spots. He’s just one shot out of the top-10 heading into Tuesday’s final round.

Jimmy Abdo (Fy., Edina, Minn.) and Chris Gutuza (Jr., Johannesburg, South Africa) led the Gusties with five birdies over the two rounds and are tied for 24th at 154 (+10) each. Abdo had the best first round for the Gusties, sitting second after 18 with three birdies and 11 pars.

Wyatt Carlson (Jr., Wayzata, Minn.) carded a 78-80-158 for a tie of 53rd, while Teddy Kaste (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) shot an 82 in each round. 

Competition resumes tomorrow morning with the final round at 7:30 a.m. CST (8:30 a.m. local).
