The Mercer County VFW is teeing up for its annual golf outing this Saturday at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth, and organizers say a few spots remain for teams looking to take part in the fun and support a great cause.
Joe Elliott, Senior Vice Commander of the Mercer County VFW, and Aaron Heartt, a member of the VFW Golf Committee, joined WRMJ this week to promote the event and encourage last-minute signups. So far, 31 teams are registered, with room for up to 36. A four-person team can register for $300, and check-in begins at 7 a.m. Saturday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
Funds raised support the local VFW’s year-round efforts, which include serving as a heating and cooling shelter during extreme weather, organizing parades and community events, offering a banquet space, and providing funeral honors for local veterans.
In addition to the golf, the outing includes a daylong raffle, silent auction, and a Queen of Hearts drawing back at the VFW hall Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Businesses and individuals interested in donating prizes or raffle items are encouraged to contact Hart.
Those interested in signing up or contributing can reach Aaron Heartt at 309-582-4673. The final deadline to register is Friday evening.
Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just out to support the cause, the VFW encourages everyone to be a part of the fun this weekend.
