On Saturday, July 26, the Box Butte Health Foundation (BBHF) hosted its annual Golf Classic – and this year’s event was one for the record books! Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the tournament raised $36,558, the highest total in the event’s history! Over the past eight years, the Golf Classic has raised a remarkable $209,664 in total, with every dollar directly supporting healthcare improvements at Box Butte General Hospital (BBGH) and the surrounding community.
This year’s proceeds will fund several important updates including the purchase of a new crib, bassinet, and post-partum chair for the OB department. These funds will also be used to renovate the pediatric rehab gym in the Rehab & Wellness Center.
“These additions will directly impact the care and comfort of our youngest patients and their families,” said Rehab Manger Tim Devlin.
Interim CEO, Dr. Brian Shelmadine commented, “The pediatric rehab gym renovation will create a safer, kid-friendly space for children to do their therapies, and the new OB and post-partum equipment will provide greater comfort and support for new moms and dads.”
“Both of these services have grown over the last few years, and the Foundation board is excited to be able to support their continued growth and impact,” said Foundation Director Chelsea Thompson.
In recent years, the Golf Classic proceeds have funded major projects such as the construction of the Rehab & Wellness Center, the purchase of essential medical equipment, and other hospital enhancements focused on improving the health and well-being of Box Butte County.
“Each year, we wonder how we’ll top the last and each year, the community continues to show up,” Thompson added. “It goes to show how much people care about supporting local healthcare and making a difference right here at home.”
This year’s tournament welcomed 33 teams with 132 golfers, with the support of 32 volunteers, 39 sponsors, and 21 donors who contributed pin-prizes and silent auction items.
The BBHF extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated, volunteered, or sponsored this year’s event. The Golf Classic would not be the success it is today without the continued support of individuals and businesses both near and far. Plans are already underway for next year’s tournament, and the committee is excited to continue this tradition of community, collaboration, and care.
