LAKE BLUFF, Ill. (September 17, 2025) – After a final-round surge saw the Wildcats claim the final spot in match play, Northwestern men’s golf concludes the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in fourth place after falling to Arizona in the consolation round by a margin of 3-2.

Competing at Shoreacres in Lake Bluff, Illinois, the ‘Cats were led Ethan Tseng and Rowan Sullivan, who each put points on the board in their matches.

Sullivan entered match play fresh off of a 7th place finish in stroke play, his highest result as a Wildcat to date. After a back-and-forth battle saw him trail for the majority of the back nine, Sullivan went two-under-par on his final two holes, finishing the match one up over William Wistrand.

After making a triple bogey on the first hole, Tseng rattled off eight consecutive pars to take the turn one up in the match against Arizona’s Connor Hamm. The match came down to the final hole with Tseng leading by one, matching Hamm’s birdie on the 18th hole with a birdie of his own to secure the victory.

Jeremy Chen took on Arizona’s Zach Pollo following a career-low 67 in Tuesday’s final round, rattling off three birdies on his back nine as Pollo took the match one up. Daniel Svärd overcame a bogey on his first hole to tie the match at the turn, but was ultimately bested by Filip Jakubcik 3&2. Rounding out the group was Monty Holcombe, who carded three birdies in a 2&1 defeat.
