NIU women’s golf wrapped up the Purdue University-hosted Boilermaker Spring Classic on Monday, finishing ninth in a field of 16 teams.
After a hot start in the first round, the Huskies fell flat in the second and third rounds.
As a team, the Huskies finished 37-over par – one stroke ahead of Mid-American Conference foe Eastern Michigan University. Amassing 901 strokes across the three rounds, NIU’s best round was the first.
Shooting 293 strokes in the first round, the Huskies sat in second place before dropping to ninth.
Freshman Dakota Tallent led the pack, finishing tied for 28th place after finishing nine-over par. Tallent shined in the first two rounds, carding back-to-back scores of 73 before falling back to a score of 79 in the third round.
NIU’s second-best golfer was freshman Alexa Ouellet, who finished tied for 40th place. Ouellet posted a score of 74 in the first round before tallying 77 strokes in each of the last two rounds.
Finishing closely behind Ouellet, senior Caroline Kent was NIU’s third-best performer at the classic after tying for 45th place. Jumpstated with a score of 72 in the first round, Kent was setback after accumulating 81 strokes in the second round.
Kent bounced back in the third, though, improving to 76 strokes in the final round.
Graduate student Emma Thorman claimed NIU’s fourth spot on the lineup, tying for 48th place. Thorman scored a 77 in the first round and an 80 in the second round. Thorman caught her stride in the third round, improving to 73 strokes.
Rounding out the Huskies’ lineup, freshman Mia Raines finished tied for 62nd place. Raines logged a score of 74 in the first round and a 73 in the second round – her best of the tournament. Raines closed the tournament with a score of 86 in the third round.
