Women’s Golf Starts Sixth at ASUN Championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – North Florida women’s golf got out to a sixth-place start to begin the week at the ASUN Championship tournament at RTJ Golf Trail @ Hampton Cove on Sunday afternoon.

The Ospreys had strong showings early on from its top players, as Kaitlyn Schroeder carded five total birdies to be seventh overall after day one. She notched three consecutive birdies while making the turn onto the back nine.

Helen Zhou also bounced back from a couple previous outings to be among the top 15 overall through the first round at the conference tournament. She carded two birdies and finished eight of the last nine holes with par.

  • Kaitlyn Schroeder leads all Ospreys at even-par looking for her sixth top-10 finish of the season.
  • She’s top-five in both par-four (even-par) and par-five (1-under) scoring averages, while also ranking third in the tournament with five birdies.
  • Helen Zhou used her six consecutive pars on the back nine to be 3-over in the opening round.
  • Casilda Allendesalazar also had six straight pars and a birdie to be 5-over in 30th overall.
  • Braydn Smith added two birdies for a 6-over score, while Kaitlynn Washburn wrapped up the final round in Huntsville.
  • UNF finished the day among the top five teams in the field for par-three and par-four averages.
